Search sources & privacy

Where results come from

This search does not claim to index the whole internet. Each result is labelled with how it was found:

Live
Fetched from an external search service at the moment you searched (cached for a few minutes).
Index
Found in an index run by this site's operator (the site itself or a self-hosted index).
Archive
Archived material, for example from the Internet Archive. It may be old or no longer online.

How results are ranked

Results from several sources are merged with Reciprocal Rank Fusion: an item scores higher the nearer the top it appears in each source (and when several sources return it), multiplied by a per-source weight set by the site administrator, with a very small bonus when query words appear in the title. There are no paid placements and no personalisation. Duplicate addresses (including tracking-parameter variants) are merged. Choose "Newest" to sort by publication date instead; items without a date are listed last.

Search

Search works without an account. Your query is processed by this website and forwarded to the search sources listed below. Those sources receive your query text and the IP address of this website's server — not your own IP address or browser details — but no technical setup can make searching completely anonymous: the operators of this website and of each source can see the queries they process.

No search sources are enabled at the moment.

Results are not endorsed

Results come from the sources named next to each item. This site does not filter results by viewpoint; it removes only items that are technically unsafe to display (for example links with non-web schemes) and applies the filters you choose, such as safe-search where a source supports it.

Usage statistics

This site keeps first-party, aggregate usage statistics to run and improve search. Each record holds only: event type, category, an hour-rounded timestamp, result count, response time, the source involved and, for result clicks, the result position. IP addresses, full user-agent strings, and search text are never stored next to an event.

If your browser sends Do-Not-Track or Global Privacy Control signals, no statistics are recorded.

Retention: individual event records 30 days; daily totals 395 days.

Your browser

Preferences (theme, default category, etc.) and the optional local search history are stored only in your own browser (localStorage) and are never sent to the server. The history is off until you switch it on, and you can clear it at any time. Result thumbnails and favicons, when enabled, are loaded by your browser directly from the result's host, which therefore sees your IP address.
